Chemotherapy Completed - Vacationing in Kos, Greece April 24 - May 01

Thursday April 24 - Traveled by Transavia Airlines from Eindhoven, NL to Kos, Andre & Nel drove us to the airport, about 40 minutes from here in Tilburg

Arrived at the Kos Airport about 8 pm, where we were met by the travel agent reps from Neckermann. We were informed the resort we had booked was not ready to open for the season (which we discovered began May 1), and we were being upgraded to a 4 star resort - Mikri Poli Resort on the outskirts of the same town, Kardamena

This turned out to be a positive surprise, even though we were left wondering why we were able to book our original resort, Hotel Akti Beach Club, which was more isolated.

Kos Island
is the third largest island of the Dodecanese. It is also the second most popular and touristy of the group after the island of Rhodes.

After checking in, we were able to enjoy a nice dinner, then went to our assigned room….which had a ocean view blocked by one of the few trees, plus was accessible only by stairs…realizing the resort was built in the side of a cliff. We were able to change rooms to a ground floor with a view, and near the end of the pool area. A great place to hang out and relax

Looking forward to a restful time together….

All in all was a great vacation, except for Monday April 28.…the chemo side effects of fatigue, and nausea wiped me out after only a couple hours exploring the island in our rental car….slept from noon until the next morning…….

The rest of the time was spent exploring this small island, and enjoying the all inclusive ambience of the resort, especially the lunch buffets…

Back home on May 1.……….

Chemotherapy Treatment: Cycle 3 - Day 6, & 7

March 18 - Tuesday

Nothing remarkable happening today with side effects other than some minor fatigue at random times

I am noting that weight and bloating has dropped by about 4 kilos since Day 1, unfortunately it seems to never completely go away, usually retaining about 1 kilo

during each cycle..

So in my case, the side effect of weight loss has not been a factor, its been just the opposite ,,,,weight gain!

March 19 - Wednesday

Spent the morning doing the rounds of blood test, and appointment with my oncologist - Dr Goey

As usual the appointment was to review results of blood test and review the side effects - also was prescribed yet another medication “Nexium” to help with upset stomach symptoms

Chemotherapy Treatment: Day 3, 4 & 5 Cycle 3

March 15 - SaturdayBegan my day at 0800, feeling somewhat human again, yet bloated and anticipating the large weight gains of the past two days ( about 5 kilos) to start to retreat again.

Overall an ok day spent visiting with my daughter Tammy, as she is nearing the end of her two week visit from Canada

Slept through out the night from 2130 to 0700 Sunday March 16

March 16 - Sunday

A fairly normal day with only minor fatigue being experienced, yet anticipating the departure of Tammy tomorrow as she returns to Canada

March 17 - Monday

My daughter Tammy departs Tilburg Centrum train station at 0845 traveling to Schipol airport to catch her British Midland flight to London Heathrow, then on to Toronto by Air Canada arriving home by 2030

The chemotherapy side effects are overall minimum today - feeling the absence of daughters in the house, after 5 weeks of visits with the two of them, Tracy and Tammy

The day was spent mostly catching up from the past few days of being under the influence of chemotherapy brain fog and fatigue
